RIVERSIDE CHURCH – Three Rivers, MI
Prior Circumstances: Riverside was ministering in a 1920’s era, two-story former high school, which was a local downtown landmark. It looked tired, had a labyrinth of long, wide hallways with adjacent classrooms and lacked space for “community building” (i.e. a large lobby).
Solution: To enclose an open courtyard with a 7,800 sq.ft. building addition, which included a large two-story church commons with adjacent café, kitchen and adult classrooms. Within the school itself, hallways were removed and walls reconfigured to provide grouped ministry areas – with controlled access from the commons. This access is through former window openings.
